Throw question

I am putting this question out to anyone who would like to answer. I want to make a sampler throw, and I am trying to decide it I should use dishcloth patterns for the squares so that I can use more stitch patterns. If anyone has a better idea or a link that you would like to share on this subject please do. I want to include a fan pattern and a cheveron pattern and I am trying to figure out how I would make them so that they would fit together. Help me please. Thank you so much in advance.
